Inspiring video: John Gill Training At Age 75
By Dougald MacDonald
Want to be inspired? Check out this video of John Gill working out in September 2012 at age 75, “in spite of severe shoulder arthritis.” Gill, the great pioneer of bouldering in the United States, can still crank off nearly 20 pull-ups and maneuver around the playground monkey bars like a youth.
Gill maintains a fascinating website packed with bouldering history and anecdotes about well-known climbers. Well worth an hour of exploration…

Mr Gill you are and have been an inspiration to me for a long time. Thanks and keep up the good work

Steve - 10/26/2012 6:09:24That wasn't me, Jon. I was in Pueblo West, Colorado, and I never have music going! ;>)
John Gill - 10/25/2012 11:02:24I remember seeing this man at the park last week. I was with my wife and kids. I must admit, we weren't sure what was going on at the time; he had a boom box that blared various works from Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. It was quite unnerving, and terrifying for the kids. Impressive in retrospect. Kudos!
Jon - 10/25/2012 6:27:50No accounting for taste! the music to my ear is celebratory, a song of ease and pleasure, like what I see in the video. Your judgment may vary. Aglane
Alan Nagel - 10/24/2012 8:11:35Music fail. He deserves something that doesn't sound like he's staring out a window at a puppy. Less sadness; more Pantera.
rik - 10/24/2012 5:27:21Totally digging the tube sock tan line! Cheers John!
Russ Walling - 10/24/2012 3:50:25I'd complain about him not doing full extension on the pull-ups, but sh!t, at 75 I'll probably have been dead for 30 years!
Presto - 10/24/2012 2:31:40forget the 20 pull-ups... how about him sticking the Yewkis Straddle on a 1-4-3 tempo, goddam! Legendary Freak!
