Eco-Conscious Climbers Can Recycle Ropes During HERA Climb4Life Colorado at Sterling Ropes Recycle Center
(June 7, 2008 — Boulder, Colo.) Rock climbers in the Boulder and Denver area can recycle old climbing ropes, no longer trustworthy enough for use as a lifeline, at the 2nd Annual HERA Climb4Life Colorado. The Sterling Ropes Recycle Center will be accepting used ropes on Friday, June 13, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the REI located at 1789 28th St. in Boulder ((303) 583-9970) and again on Saturday, June 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Boulder Rock Club, located at 2829 Mapleton Ave. in Boulder ((303) 447-2804). The recycle center is open to the public; those dropping off ropes do not have to be registered for the Climb4Life event.
HERA Climb4Life is a fundraising event that benefits the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation whose mission is to generate awareness of ovarian cancer and to fund scientific research on reliable early-detection methods and better treatments for the disease. “HERA has awarded grants to scientists who are exploring how environmental factors impact ovarian cancer,” explains HERA’s founder, Sean Patrick. “By stressing the importance of recycling to our event attendees and others in Boulder, HERA and Sterling can deliver the message that how we interact with our environment does have a significant impact.”
“Since Sterling is a longtime sponsor of the HERA Foundation, we want to support Sterling’s efforts to enable climbers to be more conscientious,” says Lisa Carmichael, a Boulder resident who is the HERA Climb4Life event organizer. “We invite all local climbers to take advantage of this opportunity to turn in their old climbing ropes: It’s two good causes coming together: protecting women’s health and the environment, too.”
