Inside the 2009 SCS Nationals
Amidst a soggy evening snowstorm on Sunday, January 25, just outside Salt Lake City, the Momentum climbing gym bustled with energy — a crowd of hundreds gathered to witness America's top climbers vie for the 2009 SCS Adult National Championship (scsnationals.org). Outside of Momentum's thick walls, the echo of cheers and applause faded into the night, while inside, Carlo Traversi and Emily Harrington bested the competition to clinch first place finishes.

The Spot Gym Goes Off for Highball Comp - The Spot Bouldering Gym in Boulder, Colorado, knows how to throw a good party, and on January 24th, 2009 they did just that. Their equation is this: take beautiful women and pair them with strong men, feed them free food and beer, give them a DJ, and throw them at some balls hard boulder problems. The North Face athlete and Boulder resident Heidi Wirtz, co-founder of the nonprofit Girls Education International (Girls Ed), was notified in October that she was one of five semifinalists for the Inspiring Soles Award. Westminster College's First-Ever Intercollegiate Climbing Competition
On November 18, 2008, in Salt Lake City, Utah, college students — with focus and determination — from across the state competed for the title of “best boulderer” at Westminster College’s first-ever climbing wall competition. Tye Watkins and Lizzie Nielson, both students at the University of Utah, took first place honors in the men’s and women’s divisions beating out more than 30 other students.

Bolivia Rock Star Festival
On November 1st, 2008 at the Amor de Dios Neighborhood in the Aramjuez area of La Paz, the First Rock Star Festival took place. The Vertigo Climbing Club, who organized this event, created a competition based on a triathlon theme where competitors would do a 4 kilometer run, a 60 meter zip line and climb ten routes.
