Five College Outdoor Festival

The Five College Outdoor Festival is a yearly celebration of outdoor sports, wild places, and the spirit of adventure on February 26-27, 2010. Our goal is to inspire the Five College and western Massachusetts community to engage in human-powered outdoor recreation. The festival includes clinics, speakers, a climbing competition, and the Telluride Mountain Film On Tour.

Each year the festival raises awareness and funds for a non-profit organization. The 2009 festival benefited Camp Mak-A-Dream and the Western Mass Climbers Coalition parking lot project at Farley Ledge.

• Climbing Clinic #1 with Heather Reynolds, author of "Climbing Your Best"
  The first clinic offered you the opportunity to develop your climbing technique with a deeper understanding of the mechanics of a movement that keeps the hips into the wall and helps you discover balance in motion. Elements of sequencing, route setting, and developing fitness were addressed. Beginner and intermediate climbers welcomed.
• Majka Burhardt's Vertical Ethiopia Presentation, hosted by the Amherst College Outing Club

• Climbing Clinic #2 with Heather Reynolds, author of "Climbing Your Best"
  The second clinic incorporated the awareness of the subtleties of movements when they are closer to our limit and the 'tricks' to strategizing success. Practiced the appropriate breath and how to find the balance when we have to move out of balance, or move dynamically. Intermediate and advanced climbers welcomed.
• Try a kayak with Zoar Outdoor
  Expert instruction from the pros of Zoar Outdoor. Demoed the latest kayaks.
• Climbing Competition and Silent Auction (benefited Farley Ledge Parking)
• Telluride Mountain Film On Tour and Raffle (benefited Camp Mak-A-Dream) Raffle Sponsored by Life Under Sun
