A celebration of mountain culture on February 11-15, 2010

Although the full details of the program for the 2010 Fort William Mountain Festival, now in it's ninth year, are yet to be announced organizers have promised a five day feast of lectures, workshops and films for residents and visitors who want to learn about and celebrate mountain culture; during the best winter walking and climbing conditions of the year.

This year's programof new events and old favourites will take place throughout Fort William and Lochaber - the Outdoor Capital of the UK - from February11-15 (Thursday to Monday) and is dedicated to celebrating mountains and the culture that surrounds them.

The festival favourite 'Party at Nevis Range', the official opening ceilidh at the top of the Nevis Range mountain gondola, will launch the varied and entertaining programme that includes lectures and film screenings from cutting edge outdoor athletes and adventurers. These include big-wall climber Andy Kirkpatrick, multi award winning film maker Paul Diffley and Jimmy Marshall, the architect of modern Scottish climbing. The festival will close with the now legendary film night - The Best of Banff Mountain Film Festival.

The winner of the 2010 Scottish Award for Excellence in Mountain Culture will be announced during the festival. There will also be plenty of opportunity for both novices and experts to hone their skills through inspirational workshops in mountain skills, avalanche awareness, winter walking and winter climbing in the Outdoor Capital; as well as both indoor climbing and ice climbing at Kinlochleven's Ice Factor Indoor Climbing Centre.
