The 10th Annual New Paltz Climbing Film Festival, featuring the Reel Rock Tour, will be 7:30 PM, Saturday, October 11 (Columbus Day Weekend). Because the Studley Theater has been closed for renovations, we will be back at the Lecture Center, next to the library on the SUNY campus. Reel Rock has opened with sold out crowds in Squamish, Boulder, Durango, and Crested Butte.
This year’s program will include the latest releases from Sender Films and Big Up Productions, short selections from the top climbing films of the year, and an exciting filmmaking competition.
The shorts
Two winning films from the REEL ROCK Filmmaking Competition
Adventure climbing in the Grand Canyon with Tommy Caldwell and Beth Rodden, produced by Big UP Productions and Sender Films
Dosage shorts, featuring cutting edge sport climbing and bouldering, produced by Josh Lowell, Big Up Productions
The Aerialist short featuring Dean Potter, produced by Brad Lynch, Jim Hurst and Many Monkeys Productions
European state of the art climbing short, produced by Alastair Lee and Posing Productions
Intermission
The Tenth Annual Thom Scheuer Award for Land Stewardship will be presented
A raffle will be held to support the programs of the New Paltz Outing Club and the Mohonk Preserve.
The Gunks Grunt Pull-up Contest will be held to test the mettle of attendees
The feature
The Sharp End, produced by Peter Mortimer, Nick Rosen and Sender Films.
The Sharp End is a film about the climbers who risk everything to do the world’s most dangerous and committing climbs. Run out traditional routes, scary highball boulder problems, ice-covered alpine walls and all-or-nothing free-solo ascents are all part of the game. The Sharp End follows Lisa Rands, Tommy Caldwell, Matt Segal, Steph Davis, Alex Honnold, Heidi Wirtz, Renan Ozturk, Vera Schulte-Pelkum, and many other leading rock athletes to stunning locales across the globe: the Italian Alps, the sandstone spires of the Czech Republic, Yosemite Valley, the Utah Desert, and the Colorado Rockies.
Program length, including intermission and raffle, approximately 2.5 hours
