Oct 22 '08 PRG Routesetting Workshop

Timy Fairfield will be offering a routesetting workshop at the Phoenix Rock Gym in Tempe, AZ on Wednesday, October 22. 

Pre-requisites:
Interested in learning methods for creating unique movement in diverse styles. Able to give and receive constructive criticism. View artificial climbing as a choreographic art medium. Interested in exploring esoteric genres of movement, improving overall quality of route setting for service-related commercial, recreational, training and competition applications.

Level I:
Open to beg/intermediate climbing ability levels V0-V6, 2yrs climbing experience, no route setting experience necessary, climbing regularly in gym and on rock. For volunteer/assistant route setters seeking to increase quality of intro level problems for recreational and tutorial purposes. 

Level II:
Open to ability levels V7, 3+yrs climbing experience, 1 year formal route setting experience, advanced/paid professional route setters seeking to hone their skills to set for competition and manage other route setters. 

General topics to be covered: Route setting as a primary commercial gym service. Setting for recreational use vs. competition. Route setting as a means of teaching gym members. Forerunning Techniques, troubleshooting, problem solving. Hitting the grade, grade refinement. Fabrication of custom features, hold modification Route marking, mapping, replication for competition. Facility Scheduling, route rotation. Global Setting vs. Local Setting Climbing choreography as a gymnastic/acrobatic medium.
