Circumnavigating Vedauwoo
where calls of ravens echo,
I look up at towering rocks
with holes exposing azure sky
in a strong sun yet with a
tinge of autumn as quaking
aspen trees tremble with each
breeze that combs through fields
of green sage scenting the air
and sticking straight up like rain
in reverse from clouds of green
hugging the rolling prairie floor
where a scraggly coyote howls
like an earthborn spirit speaking
to those rocks with sky-holes
and a raven peeking through.
Vedauwoo is a curious rock formation in southeastern Wyoming where David Breashears first climbed as a young boy.
