Boreal’s new G1 Lite (e-boreal.com) is a welcome featherweight (4lbs, 12oz/pair) entry in the double-boot category. The G1 Lite is exceptionally warm and durable — so, perfect for expeditions and alpine climbing in extreme cold — thanks to several techy features: triple Thinsulate layers, a Neoprene insole, water-resistant Dry-Line interior, Dynatec outer, and a tough, Cordura bootie exterior. This Spanish-designed dynamo also sports a special Velcro-elastic adjustment on the inner’s heel, to dial fit, as well as thermo-sealed seams, step-in-crampon compatibility, and a built-in Velcro gaiter.

1. NEOPRENE SCENE
   The outer’s 1.4mm Neoprene insole, as well as the Neoprene atop the inner bootie, keeps heat from escaping from the bottom and top of the foot. The insole also boasts anti-slip heel lugs, to hold the inner in place.
2. TRIPLE-DECKER INSULATION
   Typically, the Thinsulate in inner booties is glued, sewn, or pressed, squashing air chambers and diminishing insulation. In the G1 Lite, Boreal inserted the triple Thinsulate layers sans adhesives, increasing the boot’s insulation properties.
3. CARBON-GLASSY
   Black carbon-glass material lies on the outer boot’s side, in the collar, giving strong support for the ankle and shin during lateral flexion, but without adding undue weight.
