2010 Gear Guide: Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover


Renowned for their stance on matters of ethics and environment, Patagonia (patagonia.com) has had a host of top-shelf synthetic-fill insulated jackets, the burly DAS Parka and the Micro Puff Jacket being two staff favorites here at Climbing. In late 2009, Patagonia pushed the limits of weight and packability in an insulated jacket even farther with the Nano Puff Pullover (available in men’s and women’s versions), a versatile little number that could literally save your ass at an unexpectedly frigid belay, or when foul weather rolls in before you make it back to the car. First the Micro, now the Nano . . . we’re waiting to see what the Pico will look like.

  1. PRIMO-LOFT
    Filled with 60g Primaloft One synthetic insulation, the Nano Puff has an amazing warmth-to-weight ratio, even when it gets damp. Plus, the soft, 15-denier shell has a DWR coating, keeping said dampness to a minimum. The fi ll is highly compressible, and the jacket packs into its own pocket, too.
  2. SO LIGHT
    In addition to a nearly weightless shell (1oz), the Nano Puff is a pullover, using only a quarter-length zipper to close up the front and neck, further shaving ounces.
  3. COMMON THREAD
    It’s cool that the Nano Puff’s shell is 100-percent recycled, but it’s even cooler that the whole jacket, insulation and all, is also recyclable as part of Patagonia’s Common Threads program.
