2011 Guy Lacelle Pure Spirit Award Announced
“PeeWee fits the criteria perfectly. He is to cracks what Guy was to ice: a master of the medium, completely committed to a climbing life, with ascents of the world’s hardest lines, done in immaculate style.
“The Pure Spirit Award is graciously funded by Guy’s sponsors—Arc’Teryx, Petzl, and La Sportiva. Each year the recipient gets the gear that Guy himself would have been given by these partners; it’s a testimony to PeeWee’s own spirit that a large portion of his award will be taken in gear that he’ll be donating to the Laurentides Climbing Club. Guy would be happy.”
Peewee’s most recent achievements include a first ascent of a crack climb on the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park, Utah. Necronomicon (5.13d/14a) is about 90 feet long and completely horizontal. Other major climbs include a second ascent of the desperate Vedauwoo, Wyoming, testpiece Home on the Range (5.14a); Concepción (5.13+) in Moab, Utah; Master Blaster (5.13c/d) in Zion National Park, Utah; No Way Jose (5.13) in North Wash, Utah; and La Zébrée (5.14a) in Québec; Learning to Fly (5.13+) in Indian Creek, Utah; and many more.
