7/9/10 – A little over a week ago, Jacinda Hunter, 31, nabbed the FA of her project Fantasy Island, a 5.14b in Utah’s American Fork Canyon. This is an impressive feat, considering that Hunter manages to find time for climbing along with a registered nurse career and four children.

Last February, Hunter joined the ranks of such 5.14b female climbers as Beth Rodden and Emily Harrington when she did the first female ascent of Dave Graham’s Breaking the Law in Utah’s Black and Tan Canyon.

Fantasy Island was bolted about 15 to 20 years ago by Goff Weigand, and according to Hunter’s 8a.nu scorecard, it took her a season and a half to send it. The days before redpointing the route, she woke up at 5 a.m. to beat the heat.

In between family life with her husband, Mike (also a nurse), and their two sons and two daughters, Hunter also ticks V10 problems like it’s her job. In her Prana blog, Hunter said the most important thing she learned in working Fantasy Island was the answer of what is in a project: “While I find the joy in climbing about being in nature, and the movement on the rock, my real answer is found when I overcome something inside that doubts what’s possible.”
