5/22/12 – Kilian Fischhuber and Anna Stöhr took first in the latest Bouldering World Cup in their local town of Innsbruck, Austria, on May 19. The women’s final was extremely close, with Stöhr, Melissa Le Neve, and Shauna Coxsey all vying for first place on the final problem. Le Neve sealed an excellent final position by flashing the fourth and final problem, but Coxsey edged her out after sending the fourth problem, making four topouts to Le Neve’s three. But then Stöhr flashed the fourth problem, taking first place with one fewer attempt than Coxsey. Alex Puccio, the only USA climber in both the women and men’s events, barely missed the podium by two attempts (she also topped out three problems), finishing in fourth. (Puccio grabbed a bronze medal at the last event in Vienna, Austria.)Absent from the women’s top six was Akiyo Noguchi, who has won two 2012 World Cup events (Chongqing, Chinaand Vienna) and was ranked first. With Stöhr’s win in Innsbruck, Noguchi has fallen to second place in rankings behind Stöhr, but by only two points. Coxsey sits in third, followed by Mina Markovic, Puccio, and Le Neve. The men’s competition was not as close. Fischhuber finished only two of the four problems, follwed by Rustam Gelmanov’s one topout. No other competitor finished a finals problem. Third place came down to number of attempts on bonus holds, which put Canadian Sean McColl in third.Gelmanov—with two golds, one silver, and one bronze so far in 2012—remains in first in rankings by a wide margin. Fischhuber has been on the podium for two other bouldering events (Vienna and Log-Dragomer, Slovenia) and follows Gelmanov in second. Jakob Schubert, 2011′s lead climbing champion, is in third, followed by Dmitry Sharafutdinov, Guillaume Glairon Mondet, and Thomas Caleyron.Stay tuned as the IFSC World Cup comes to Vail, Colorado, June 1 and 2 for the fifth bouldering event.Women’s Final Results:
