CCC Starts Off the New Year by Closing on Rumbling Bald

Carolina Climbers Coalition (CCC) started off the new year by closing on the acquisition of Rumbling Bald West Side Boulders on January 6, 2010. The Access Fund provided a bridge loan of $72,000 from the new Access Fund Land Conservation Campaign to finance 90% of the purchase price for the 6.12 acre tract, which hosts 30 boulders with approximately 200 high quality boulder problems.

The CCC and the Access Fund worked together to finalize the purchase of this popular bouldering area from a private developer. The CCC will fundraise over the next two years, with the intent of transferring the property to North Carolina State Parks for long-term, climber-friendly management.

The acquisition of this field is the second climber owned resource in Western North Carolina, the first being Laurel Knob, the 1800' granite monolith in Cashiers Valley, NC repaid by private individuals and climbers alike then deeded to the CCC.

If you've ever climbed at Rumbling Bald, if you ever plan to, or even if you never plan to, you can support our efforts and help us get the loans repaid! Your contributions may be tax deductible, check with your tax advisor for information. Please help by making an on-line donation now!
