There's never been anything like this before - Green light for a unique summit event dedicated to mountain sports
Bressanone/Brixen (South Tyrol, Italy) – 12 June 2009: Greenlight was given yesterday for a truly extraordinary convention on mountain sports: theInternational Mountain Summit®. A first glimpse at the exciting schedule of the multinational mountaineering convention held from 3 to 8 November 2009 was offered at the first IMS® press conference in the presence of internationally renowned mountaineering legends Reinhold Messner, Hans Kammerlander and Christoph Hainz. A delegation representing the promising new generations was also present: the Riegler brothers, Simon Gietl, world ice climbing champion Angelika Rainer, David Lama and the champion in slacklining, Christian Waldner.
At the reception, the IMS® organisers Markus Gaiser and Alex Ploner welcomed not only top athletes but also guests of honour from the business sector and local politics and presented a comprehensive event schedule to the press: In early November 2009, the International Mountain Summit® will unite the crème de la crème of mountain sports in Bressanone/Brixen. Over several days, there will be plenty of space for interesting discussion rounds, fascinating talks and impressive presentations on mountain sports held by experts and mountaineering legends. The event schedule includes an extensive programme of meetings, talks, activities and even a matching outdoor fair: the IMS® Expo. During the Walk and Talk activities, visitors get the chance to go hiking with mountaineering legends from all over the globe and ask them for some of their personal insiders' tips while exploring the awe-inspiring mountains of South Tyrol.
“With the International Mountain Summit® we have successfully created a unique summit event", commented the project managers Markus Gaiser and Alex Ploner. "In addition to top mountaineers like Reinhold Messner, Hans Kammerlander, Peter Habeler, Lynn Hill and Sir Chris Bonington, we have invited many bouldering professionals to Bressanone/Brixen. All of them will intensively address the central issue - the mountain - in the IMS® talks and share their expertise with the visitors, who can ask them for information and advice.“
“True to our motto 'nahe.near.vicino', we want the IMS to be a platform for all mountain fans which brings them closer to their passion and at the same time unites tradition, history and the future”, so Ploner.
“Its is fascinating to think that real mountaineering legends like Sir Chris Bonington from England, Peter Habeler from Austria, one of the world's best climbers from the US - Lynn Hill - and of course our South Tyrolean legends Reinhold Messner, Hans Kammerlander, Christoph Hainz and Hans Peter Eisendle will meet right here in the heart of South Tyrol. I hope that many passionate mountain fans of all ages take the event as a unique opportunity to meet in Bressanone/Brixen and exchange experiences or simply take home unforgettable memories", commented Dr. Luis Durnwalder, head of the Provincial Government and patron of the IMS.
South Tyrol's most famous extreme mountaineer, writer and mountain farmer Reinhold Messner is also excited about five fascinating days dedicated to the passion for mountains in his home lands: ”With the IMS an old South Tyrolean tradition will be revived: warming down - social gatherings among mountain fans. I am especially looking forward to meeting the new generations of mountaineers. It will be a great pleasure to exchange views and experiences with them and learn about their philosophies. I am particularly honoured to meet David Lama and chat to him about mountaineering.”
The mayor from Brixen, Albert Pürgstaller: “With its location in the very heart of the Alps, Bressanone/Brixen is certainly the ideal place for an event like the IMS. As its host, we are very pleased to welcome the world's best moutaineers and climbers this autumn.”
Mountaineering legend Hans Kammerlander said: "The IMS should be principally a meeting place for young and older generations. For a long time, I have retained my experiences like a treasure. Now the time has come to slowly retreat and start sharing my experiences and knowledge. The IMS will provide the ideal platform for this aim.”
Also the mountaineer Christoph Hainz strongly believes in the potential of the IMS®:
"In my opinion, the IMS will revitalise the image of South Tyrol as the home of mountaineering culture. Both mountaineers and climbers should be represented authentically - in their quintessential element."
