1/09/07 - Americans Kelly Cordes and Colin Haley completed a fast, alpine-style ascent of a much-discussed link-up on Cerro Torre, following the Marsigny-Parkin line to the Col of Hope, then the original 1974 route up the West Ridge to the summit.

1/04/07 - Britons Stuart McAleese and Mike “Twid” Turner pioneered a route up the unclimbed 3,500-foot South Face of the South Tower of Paine in Chilean Patagonia, but a five-day storm near the top prevented them from climbing easier terrain to the summit.
New Aconcagua Speed Record
1/03/07 - Jorge Egocheaga made a new speed record ascent of Argentina's Aconcagua (22,841 feet; the tallest peak in the Southern Hemisphere) in seven hours and 52 minutes from Horcones Valley (9,350 feet) to the summit, with a roundtrip time of 14 hours, five minutes, and 54 seconds.

Berger Dies in Ice Climbing Accident
12/21/06 - Austrian climber Hari Berger was killed while ice climbing in an ice cave near Hintersee Flachachau, Austria, on Wednesday, December 20, after approximately 150 tons of ice collapsed, burying the Austrian World Champion during training.
