8/19/09 - Colin Abercrombie and Leor Pantilat completed the famous Ptarmigan Traverse in the North Cascades of Washington in 14 hours 36 minutes in late July.
 
Oscar Perez Rescue on Latok II Called Off
8/17/09 - On August 6th, Spanish climber Oscar Perez suffered a broken leg and wrist after a fall at 6,200 meters while attempting to climb a new route, in alpine style, on Latok II (7,125 meters) in Pakistan's rugged and remote Karakoram Range.
 
Two 5.12+ First Free Ascents in the Bugaboos
8/14/09 - The Canadian-American trio of Jason Kruk, Will Stanhope, and Matt Segal have completed the first free ascent of the west face of Howser Spire’s Central Tower in the Bugaboos at 5.12+.

8/14/09 - At 10:15 am (August 14th, 2009) there has been contact from Álvaro Sebastián in Skardu. The news is very encouraging. Today, as expected, all the equipment and people have moved into base camp.
 
Desperate Rescue in the Karakoram Continues
8/13/09 - The news from Latok II desperate. Efforts in Pakistan to save Spanish climber Oscar Perez, who is at 6,200 meters with a broken leg and arm, are proving to be slow and complicated, although officially it is said that there is total support of the local authorities.

Riccardo Cassin 1909–2009
8/11/09 - The Italian climbing pioneer Riccardo Cassin has passed away on August 6th at his home near Lecco in Northern Italy. The rarely idle Cassin, who continued climbing well into his eighties, made first ascents all over the world in ranges of such as the Alps, Alaska, South America and the Himalaya.
