Jorge Egocheaga made a new speed record ascent of Argentina's Aconcagua (22,841 feet; the tallest peak in the Southern Hemisphere) in seven hours and 52 minutes from Horcones Valley (9,350 feet) to the summit, with a roundtrip time of 14 hours, five minutes, and 54 seconds. To put some perspective on this feat, the previous record was held by Peruvian Holmes Pantoja Bayona in a time of 13 hours up, 20 hours, and 35 minutes roundtrip, made on February 3rd, 2006.
