North American boulderers put on a very strong showing in the opening round of the Bouldering World Cup, hosted by the annual Teva Mountain Games in Vail, Colorado. The Bouldering World Cup in Vail is the first world cup climbing event in the U.S. since 1990.

American Paul Robinson won the men’s qualifying round on Friday, and Chris Sharma was third. Meanwhile, Alex Johnson from the U.S. won the women’s qualifier.

Seven of the 22 men who made the semifinals were from North America, and nine out of the 20 female semifinalists were North American.

The semifinal round begins at 1 p.m. Mountain time on Saturday, June 7, and the finals are at 6 p.m.
