Usobiaga 5.14d First Ascent

by Dan Dewell

Patxi Usobiaga Collection

Patxi Usobiaga is at it again, this time with the first ascent of Begi Puntuan in the limestone crag of Etxauri, near Pampalona, Spain. This caps off an astounding six 5.14a or harder routes for Usobiaga within an eight day period, including the onsight of three — yes three — 5.14a's.

Here's a run-down of Usobiaga's efforts:
11/24/2006 - Andujar Power (5.14a onsight)
11/25/2006 - Proyecto de Ricardo (5.14a onsight) and Guayamo (5.14b)
11/27/2006 - Aurrez-aurre (5.14a)
11/29/2006 - Teken (5.14a onsight)
12/01/2006 - Begi Puntuan (5.14d)

Date of Ascent: December 1, 2006
