Frenchman Alex Chabot redpointed a severely overhung, new 5.14d in Deversé, dubbed Abyss. His route involves no manufacturing, and climbs out a 66-foot, 45- to 70-degree overhanging column. “The departure is very bouldery (~V7/8), it then continues with sustained movement for 40 moves that must be done without loss of energy,” said Chabot in an interview with nice-climb.com.
Chabot is a former World Cup difficulty competition champion (2001-2003), has onsighted 5.14a (L-mens in Montsant), and has flashed a 5.14b, Baltzolina. Photos courtesy of Nice-climb.com and Kairn.com Comment on this story
