8/23/10 - On Saturday, August 21, Belgian climber Chloé Graftiaux died after falling from the South Face of Aiguille Noire de Peuterey in the Mont Blanc massif. Graftiaux, 23—who was well known in the world comp circuit as a bouldering and sport climbing champion—was descending from the summit and was swept away by rock fall.

This year, Graftiaux placed third overall in the Bouldering World Cup, with victories in Vail, Colorado, and Sheffield, England. Graftiaux was also active in the mountaineering and ice climbing community, with yearly ascents in the Mont Blanc range and an ice climbing comp victory at the Valle de Daone 2010.
