Evgeny Kryvosheytsev from Ukraine and Jenny Lavarda from Italy won the North Face Ice Climbing World Cup in Switzerland last weekend. The annual competition, part of the three-stop 2007 Ice World Championship tour, is held in the center of a multistory, circular parking garage at the Swiss resort of Saas-Fee.

Kryvosheytsev won the Ouray Ice Festival comp in January; last year he was seventh at the Saas-Fee competition. Lavarda finished second last year to German Ines Papert, who is no longer competing.

Russian climbers dominated the speed-climbing portion of the ice competition, just as they do in speed contests on plastic. Nikolay Primerov won the men’s speed comp, and Maria Shabalina was the top woman.
