Kimball Establishes New 5.14s in Clear Creek

By Katie Scatena

6/8/11 - Brian Kimball has been busy these past few months reinventing the New River Wall in Clear Creek Canyon, Colorado. He has created many linkups and bolted new lines at this wall, home to the classic and controversial Public Enemy (originally 5.12d with drilled and bolt-on holds, and now a retrobolted 5.13c/d that uses just one old drilled pocket). Most notably, Kimball is suggesting 5.14c for two new routes, which would make them among the hardest on the Front Range. In total, he has put up six 5.14 and several 5.13 lines and variations on the severely overhanging cliff. Watch Kimball on Sonic Vibrations (5.14c) and other climbs, below.
