News Link: Oh Eun-sun from Korea summited Gasherbrum I, her 13th 8,000-meter peak, on August 3. She plans to travel to Nepal this fall to attempt Annapurna, and if she’s successful she would be the first woman to complete all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter summits. Oh has climbed four of the giant peaks in 2009 alone.

Austrian woman Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner has climbed 12 of the 8,000-meter peaks and was attempting K2 this summer, but she appears to have abandoned her bid during a summit push this week.

Lindsay Griffin has written a good summary of Oh’s efforts, along with the other women who have more than ten 8,000-meter summits, at Thebmc.co.uk. A list of Oh’s 8,000-meter climbs can be found at Upclimbing.com
