Ondra: 5.15b FA, 5.14c Onsight in Same Day

By Amanda Fox

3/28/11 - After having the best climbing trip ever, Ondra outdid himself by grabbing the first ascent of Chris Sharma's 5.15b project, Chaxi Raxi, in Oliana, Spain, on Sunday. He also onsighted Blanquita (5.14c), his sixth 14c onsight in less than two weeks.

Not only did he climb both routes in a day, but Ondra climbed Blanquita just an hour after finishing Chaxi Raxi. In an interview with Planet Mountain, Ondra describes Chaxi as "40m (131 feet) high with the crux after the second bolt, a difficult section which would be about 8b+ (V14) boulder. This is then followed by 9a/9a+ (5.14d/5.15a) climbing, with some good rests." Chaxi joins the short and elite list of 5.15b climbs in the world.

Also in the article, PM brings up the interesting point that Ondra has yet to bolt his own projects; rather, he has focused his energy on repeating the world's hardest routes or FA'ing existing bolted lines. Which means that if and when he does begin the bolting process, we can likely imagine his lines will be pretty groundbreaking and unprecedented. Read the rest of the interview at planetmountain.com.
