Basque brothers Eneko and Iker Pou have free-climbed an 850-foot route in Spain with a first pitch graded 5.14c. Lurgorri takes a five-pitch line to a subpeak on the right side of the limestone tower El Picu Urriello (aka Naranjo de Bulnes). The brothers established the climb in July with aid and then began working to free it, which they accomplished on Sunday, with Iker leading the crux first pitch. The remaining pitches go at 5.12b, 5.11d, 5.10, and 5.13a, with significant runouts. Although they preplaced pro for the redpoint, including pitons, the brothers used a minimum number of bolts on the route, including no bolts on the 115-foot overhanging 5.14 that starts the climb. The 180-foot 5.13 pitch that caps the route has only eight bolts. Comment on this story
