8/22/11 - The 2011 Boulder World Cup season drew to a close in Munich, Germany, this past weekend, with Russia's Dmitry Sharafutdinov and Slovenian Mina Markovic taking the gold. But it was Austrians Kilian Fischhuber and Anna Stöhr who were crowned this year's champions.

Russia's athletes put on an impressive show, taking all three spots on the men's podium. Sharafutdinov flashed the four finals problems; teammate Rustam Gelmanov also topped all four problems, followed by fellow Russian Alexey Rubtsov's two tops.

In the women's field, Markovic topped three of the four problems; Germany's Juliane Wurm finished two problems, and Stöhr completed only one problem.

Stöhr recently won the gold medal at the Bouldering World Championship and took second overall in Arco, Italy. She stood on the podium in seven out of the nine BWC this season, with three first-place finishes. Fischhuber medaled in five BWCs, with four gold medals. Both Fischhuber and Stöhr finished in second place overall last year.

Perhaps the most impressive news on the American front stems from the overall rankings. For the first time in World Cup history, an American, Alex Puccio, stood on the podium in third place overall. Puccio competed in every Boulder World Cup this season and came away with five medals. Teammate Alex Johnson also finished strong, in eighth place overall. In Munich, Puccio tied for eighth, Sasha DiGiulian placed 15th, Courtney Sanders placed 32nd, and Audrey Sniezek placed 36th. Daniel Woods, the sole American male to compete, finished 13th.
