Diamond Sends 5.14c

By Dougald MacDonald

Shawn Diamond, who wrote about his longtime battle with Crohn’s disease in the current issue of Climbing (No. 242), has redpointed the hardest route of his life, Hasta La Vista (5.14c) at Mount Charleston in Nevada. At 22, Diamond is an art and pre-med student at UCLA, and he had already climbed up to 5.14b and bouldered V13, all while enduring numerous surgeries to treat the symptoms of his illness, an autoimmune disorder of the intestines. His July 6 redpoint of Hasta La Vista came just four days after a night in the hospital.
