Chris Sharma and Angela Payne won the Petzl Roc Comp national bouldering championships at Earth Treks gym in Maryland. This was the third and final national competition of the American Bouldering Series 2003-04 season. For Payne, it was a clean sweep: The 19-year-old from Boulder, Colorado, also won the nationals in Boulder and Sacramento, California, including two victories over World Cup winner Lisa Rands. Rob D’Anastasio, 20, took the season title for the men.
