U.S. Youth National Championships
By Dougald MacDonald / The Mountain World

More than 400 climbers from around the country gathered in mid-July at Momentum Climbing in Sandy, Utah, for the 2009 Youth National Championships. After the three-day competition, national champions in lead and speed climbing were declared in five age groups.

The results concluded selection for the 2009 U.S. youth climbing team, and invitations have been sent to top American climbers for the World Youth Championships at the end of August in Valence, France. Team members also may attend a training camp in Boulder, Colorado, at the end of this month.

Perennial powerhouse Team Texas earned the most points in both sport and speed, giving it top rank among the 80 teams represented at the championships.
