8/13/12 – The eighth World Cup of 2012—or third Lead World Cup—took place on August 10 and 11 in Imst, Austria, with Jorg Verhoeven and Momoka Oda taking top honors in the lead competition. Mina Markovic was the only woman to top out the semifinals route, but Oda reached a clear high point on the finals route, securing her a gold medal. Johanna Ernst placed third, finishing six holds below Markovic. Evgenia Malamid saw her first-ever top five finish in an adult World Cup; she’s competed in all three Lead competitions thus far, after having been off the World Cup scene since 2010.The men’s finals competition was a bit closer, with Verhoeven reaching one hold farther than second- and third-place finishers Jakob Schubert and Sachi Amma.Thomasina Pidgeon, the lone North American to compete, finished 39th for the women.Amma, who won the first two Lead World Cups of 2012, remains first in rankings with a big lead. Jakob Schubert follows in second, with Ramón Julian Puigblanque in third. Markovic has a slight lead over Momoka in women’s rankings, with Hélène Janicot following closely in third.
