Ice Climbing World Cup 2011
1/4/11 - A new era is beginning in ice climbing: On January 8 and 9, the UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup season will get underway, with Lead and Speed competitions in Cheongsong, Korea—the first time the circuit makes a stop in Asia. 12/21/10 - It has come to our attention that the adjustment system of the GRIPREST (the lower hand rest at the bottom of the handle) on the 2010 NOMIC (U21 2) and ERGO (U22) in some cases may not stay fixed in the desired size position. 12/21/10 – The American Alpine Club (AAC) has purchased 40 acres of land in Fayetteville, West Virginia, within walking distance of rock climbing at the New River Gorge. 12/16/10 – The American Alpine Club awards more than $50,000 every year for projects ranging from worldwide exploration to local conservation. 12/8/10 - Over the last 12 months, Hot Rock has been exploring climbing the length and breadth of Africa (see Ivana Crone’s trip reports for Climbing.com’s Above & Beyond feature here.) 11/18/10 - The Access Fund, the national advocacy organization that keeps climbing areas open and conserves the climbing environment, is pleased to announce permanent access has been secured to Jailhouse Rock near Sonora, California through the Access Fund Land Conservation Campaign. 11/4/10 – On October 22 through 24, the Access Fund, the national non-profit advocacy group that keeps climbing areas open and conserves the climbing environment, brought federal land managers and field-level personnel who are involved in recreation policy together to share best practices in climbing management. 11/1/10 - The Travel Channel has picked up groundbreaking documentary series "First Ascent" for U.S. television from adventure filmmakers Sender Films, marking the first series dedicated to rock climbing ever to be aired on U.S. television. 10/19/10 – Big City Mountaineers, a nonprofit on a mission to enhance the lives of under-resourced urban teens through transformative outdoor experiences, has appointed a new executive director, Lisa Mattis. 10/11/10 – The 9th Annual HERA Climb4Life event in Salt Lake City raised $101,000 to support the detection, treatment, and prevention of ovarian cancer. 10/5/10 – For almost twenty years, the International Polartec® Challenge Grant has supported expeditions and adventures to every corner of the Earth. 10/5/10 – From October 1, 2010, through December 15, 2010, the 2011 Mugs Stump Award will be accepting grant applications from small climbing teams with fast and light alpine objectives. 10/1/10 – The Province of British Columbia’s announcement last week that it has acquired a ten hectare parcel of land at the base of the Malamute, a granite monolith adjacent to the Stawamus Chief Provincial Park near Squamish that contains over 60 climbing routes, is being heralded as an important victory for outdoor enthusiasts. 9/29/10 – Sierra Designs is donating five Lightning XT 2 and Lightning XT 3 tents to help support Africa’s South Rift Game Scouts, a program that employs young, indigenous Maasai men to protect endangered wildlife and forests from poachers as well as illegal logging and charcoal operations. 9/21/10 - Arc’Teryx, Petzl and La Sportiva are honored to sponsor an award recognizing the difference our friend Guy Lacelle made in the world. 9/2/10 - The Washington Climbers Coalition (WCC) announced today that it has succeeded in its campaign to buy the Index Lower Town Wall, a premier rock climbing area near Index, Snohomish County. 8/25/10 – Greener Grass Publishing, the young publishing company which recently released the wildly successful first guidebook to Horse Pens 40, is announcing the special pre-sale price for their newest guidebook Stone Fort Bouldering to be released at the beginning of October 2010. 8/25/10 – ConservationNEXT, a program of The Conservation Alliance, will organize its next Backyard Collective Friday, August 27th at the Roxborough State Park near Denver, Colorado. 7/13/10 - The Access Fund, the national advocacy organization that keeps U.S. climbing areas open and conserves the climbing environment, announced today that the Washington Climbers Coalition (WCC) has paid back its loan to the Access Fund for the option agreement on Lower Index Town Wall in Washington. 6/28/10 - Supertopo LLC, known for producing world-class climbing guidebooks and the über-popular website supertopo.com, has just released their latest book: Yosemite Sport Climbs and Top Ropes, by Chris Van Leuven and Chris McNamara. 6/22/10 - The HERA Women's Cancer Foundation (Health, Empowerment, Research, Awareness) completed another successful HERA Climb4Life event, raising more than $27,000 for its ovarian cancer research and community grant programs and awareness initiatives. 6/16/10 - The UIAA welcomes China’s decision to ban people under 18 years of age from climbing Mount Everest. 6/15/10 - Please join Mountain Hardwear and Paragon Sports in welcoming Mountain Hardwear's four Outdoor Nation Youth Delegates to New York City. 6/7/10 – The Access Fund, the national advocacy organization that keeps U.S. climbing areas open and conserves the climbing environment, announced today that it will provide Red River Gorge Climbers’ Coalition with short-term financing to pay off the current seller-financed loan on the Pendergrass-Murray Recreational Preserve in Kentucky’s Red River Gorge. 6/1/10 -
