American Guides to Teach Climbing to Pakistani Women This Summer
5/16/07 - The Pakistani Women's Climbing Camp, is a joint project of Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) and The American Alpine Club (AAC). The clinics are free and are part of the HERA Ovarian Cancer Climb4Life event, which will be held for the first time on the Front Range this summer. 4/12/07 - The event, known as "50-50-1" will include climbing teams in all 50 states in the US, scaling the highest peak in each state on the same day. Each team will raise money in their area, which will in turn help to fund important research to find a cure for cancer, provide patient support services, and give a child with cancer the opportunity to attend Camp Sunshine. 4/03/07 - Montana humanitarian and mountaineer, Greg Mortenson, has received the prestigious Kiriyama Prize for his New York Times bestseller 'Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission To Promote Peace…One School At A Time'. 3/15/07 - Chris Hunnicutt, a 32-year-old Salt Lake City climber, lost his life on Tuesday, January 30th while climbing Stairway to Heaven (WI5) in Provo Canyon. A Outward Bound memorial fund has been created in Chris' name to enable other teenagers to experience the trips where Chris solidified his love of the outdoors. 3/07/07 - The AAC today released the online version of its world renowned American Alpine Journal. Published since 1929, the American Alpine Journal (the Journal) is the premier annual record of significant mountaineering and long rock-climbing ascents worldwide. 2/23/07 - In November of 2006, after a decade of climbing together throughout the world, North Face climber Heidi Wirtz and writer/climber Lizzy Scully decided to found Girls Education International, a nonprofit that supports the education of young women. 2/20/07 - Five College Outdoor Festival Amherst, Massachusetts March 2 and 3, 2007 Hampshire and Amherst College Campus. 2/13/07 - Osprey Packs, Inc., an independent pack company located in the high desert and mountains of Southwestern Colorado, proudly announces a pack recycling program with Albuquerque based not-for-profit, The Mountain Fund. 1/19/07 - “The Alpine Conservation Partnership is the biggest thing the AAC has ever done in the conservation arena,” said AAC member and Patagonia founder, Yvon Chouinard. 1/05/07 - The new Gallatin National Forest travel plan severely threatens access to the world-class ice climbing in Hyalite Canyon near Bozeman, Montana. More than 500 people from 18 countries came in 2004.
