11/21/05 - Each year the Access Fund recognizes individuals and businesses that volunteer their efforts and shine above the rest in their commitment and work on behalf of the American climbing community for preserving climbing access and the climbing environment.
 
Great Falls Plan: Time to Comment
12/8/05 - Public comments on the draft General Management Plan (GMP) for Great Falls Park, Virginia close December 15, 2005. This plan, once finalized and published, will guide the management direction of Great Falls Park for the next 10-15 years.
 
Buttermilk Restoration Project

Lou Dawson inducted into Colorado's Ski Hall of Fame
10/19/05 - Former pioneer Aspen rock climber and legendary backcountry skier Lou Dawson of Carbondale, Colorado, will be inducted into the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame.
 
Omega Pacific Notice of Voluntary Recall
9/23/05 - Airway Heights, WA – In cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commision (CPSC), Omega Pacific is voluntary recalling a small percentage of Five-O Screwgate locking carabiners built between November and December of 2004.
 
Alex Lowe Peak Approved
9/27/05 - Montana is still a pristine wilderness with many remote areas chalked full of unnamed peaks. On September 12, one of those peaks was named after Alex Lowe.

Grassroots Advocacy Group Formed to Represent Climbers' Interests at Indian Creek, UT
9/9/05 - The Friends of Indian Creek recently organized as a volunteer climbing advocacy group that seeks to preserve the unique and undeveloped character of Indian Creek while also providing necessary funding and other resources for stewardship projects and outreach efforts to ensure the conservation of the valued and world-class recreational, natural and cultural resources found at Indian Creek.
 
The Access Fund's Sixth Annual Adopt-a-Crag Kicks Off
9/7/05 - The Access Fund is proud to announce that the sixth annual Adopt-a-Crag kicks off during the month of September in more than 85 locations around the country.
 
3 Peaks 3 Weeks Challenge
9/7/05 - In January 2007, twelve women from around the globe will unite to become the first all female climbing party to summit three of Africa's highest peaks in less than 3 weeks. The project will run over the next two years in order to raise funds for three East African non-profit organizations dedicated to HIV/AIDS, education and the environment.
 
Access Fund Climbing Preservation Grants
8/25/05 - The Access Fund has awarded $25,757 in its second round of grant funding for 2005 bringing total for the year to $68,757 across 15 grants.

Friends of Joshua Tree to Host the 9th Annual Climb Smart Gathering
7/28/05 - Friends of Joshua Tree will host the 9th annual Climb Smart gathering presented by Patagonia and Black Diamond at Indian Cove group campgrounds from September 30 through October 2, 2005. This is the largest gathering of Southern California’s climbing community, featuring intensive clinics, gear raffles, food and top notch entertainment over the weekend.
 
Avalanche Jam Fundraiser Ready to Rock Golden 
7/13/05 - The fourth annual Avalanche Jam, hosted by Backcountry Access (BCA), will take place from 5 to 10 pm on Friday, Sept. 16 outside the American Mountaineering Center in Golden, Colorado.
 
Tommy and Beth Headline Fundraiser in Carbondale
7/11/05 - On May 7th, Glenwood Springs resident Kurt Birkenmeier suffered serious head injuries in a climbing accident at Red Rocks. In the fall, Kurt fractured his skull, lost his hearing in one ear, and lost his senses of taste and smell. On Friday, July 15 the CRMS barn will host a slideshow by Tommy Caldwell and Beth Rodden. A silent auction and gear raffle will accompany the show to raise money to help Kurt cover the enormous medical costs.
 
Access Fund Urges Action at Oak Flat
7/01/05 - Boulder, CO, June 22, 2005 - On May 25, 2005, Arizona’s Senator Kyl and Congressman Renzi introduced identical land exchange bills into Congress.  According to the Access Fund this moves Resolution Copper Company (RCC) one step closer to destroying the publicly-owned Oak Flat area East of Phoenix.
 
International Group to Promote Climbers' Contributions
5/13/05 - The mainstream press is always reporting tragedies on mountains around the world and even showing them on six-story IMAX screens. What's never reported is the untold acts of caring and unselfish service happening everyday in countries that host our explorations. The Mountain Fund is out to change the public perception about climbers.

04/20/05 - Return 2 Sender, the latest release from Peter Mortimer (Front Range Freaks, Scary Faces), premiered at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado last Wednesday. Several members of the Climbing Magazine staff headed down to check it out.

4/05/05 - The Southeastern Climbers Coalition (SCC) recently finalized a deal to purchase the climbing area known as Jamestown in Jamestown, Alabama (close to Fort Payne).
 
Twelfth Annual International Climbers' Festival
3/18/05 - Lander, Wyoming will welcome the 12th Annual International Climbers’ Festival July 7-10, 2005. The festival, started in 1994 by local climbers as a celebration of climbing, is a long weekend of events in Lander and at the world-famous climbing areas nearby.
 
Lynn Hill announces a series of climbing workshops in 2005
3/02/05 - This spring, Lynn Hill will launch the first of six comprehensive climbing camps. The camps will celebrate the climbing lifestyle and help participants achieve a new level in their climbing.
