3 Peaks 3 Weeks Challenge

By Laura Hartstone

In January 2007, twelve women from around the globe will unite to become the first all female climbing party to summit three of Africa's highest peaks in less than 3 weeks. The team will climb Mount Kilimanjaro (19,335.6 ft), Mount Kenya (17,058 ft), and Mount Meru (15,00 ft), for a total of over 50,000 vertical feet of climbing in 21 days.

The project will run over the next two years in order to raise funds for three East African non-profit organizations, respectively dedicated to HIV/AIDS, education and the environment. These organizations include Students for International Change, The School of St Jude, and the Laikipia Wildlife Forum. The 3 Peaks climbing team has direct experience working with HIV/AIDS, government education systems, and environmental programs in East Africa and is fiercely dedicated to the causes for which they are climbing.

With passion to help make poverty history, and outstanding commitment to social responsibility, the team of twelve women will not stop until they have reached 3 of the highest summits in Africa. They will not stop until they have spread awareness throughout the western world. And they will not stop until they have reached their goal of raising $90,000 USD for the outlined organizations.
