Spring Events in the Mount Washington Valley to Benefit Local Rock Climbing Philanthropy

By Janet Bergman

Kismet Rock Foundation supporters and friends are invited to the third annual Jubilee celebration and first ever Flatbread Company fundraiser

Kismet Rock Foundation, a local nonprofit organization serving New England youth, invites community and friends to two upcoming events. The third annual Jubilee will take place on Saturday June 2 at the Eagle Mountain House in Jackson, New Hampshire. In addition, The Flatbread Company of North Conway will host a benefit night on Tuesday, May 8, during which a portion of every pizza sold will be donated to Kismet.

"The ‘Kismet Rock Stars’ were a big hit at last year’s Jubilee, which drew more than 150 people from around the region," says Ted Wroblewski, Kismet Board President. The band, made up of local musicians Alain Comeau, Andy Hannon, Tony Iorfino, Michael Jewell and Alana MacDonald will again play a selection of music ranging from Blues to Rock, and from the 40’s to today.

"New this year is a silent auction, offering weekend getaway packages, an XM radio, artwork, gift certificates, outdoor gear, and more," continues Wroblewski. "We hope it will be a big hit with guests." Tickets for the Jubilee are $60 per person. RSVP’s must received by May 14.

The Flatbread benefit raffle will include a weekend getaway, a canoe/kayak adventure, gift certificates and more. To attend the Flatbread benefit, simply order pizza (for eating in or taking out) on Tuesday, May 8. Kismet representatives will be around selling tickets for the raffle all evening.

Kismet Rock Foundation, a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, enhances the physical, intellectual and emotional development of well-functioning but economically disadvantaged children by providing access to the immense value of a comprehensive and multi-dimensional education in technical rock climbing.

. Kismet serves a specific and largely invisible population of children who, in spite of economic adversity, have retained great potential, but who are in danger of faltering merely because of financial circumstance. “I feel Kismet is one of the most wonderful and compelling youth programs out there,” explains Wroblewski. “To witness these children on the first day they arrive and then see what they accomplish at the end of their stay is nothing short of amazing. Their smiles speak volumes.”

Kismet is currently fundraising for the 2008 Expansion Project which will result in the doubling of programs by the summer of 2008.
