Meet Alex Honnold at HERA Foundation's Booth During Outdoor Retailer
CARBONDALE, COLO. (January 14, 2009) Professional climber Alex Honnold has been making headlines in the climbing media. At 23 years old, Honnold has a tick-list of accomplishments that include soloing the Regular Northwest Face on Half Dome in Yosemite Valley (VI 5.12a, 23 pitches), in 2 hours 50 minutes and soling Moonlight Buttress (V 12d, 1200feet) in Zion National Park. Both ascents took place in 2008. In 2007, Honnold free-soloed Astroman, (5.11c, 10 pitches) and the Rostrum (5.11c, 8 pitches), also in Yosemite, on the same day. Attendees at Winter Outdoor Retailer will have a chance to meet Honnold at the HERA Women Cancer Foundation’s booth # 32050A on Thursday, January 22 where he will be signing posters from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
According to Climbing Magazine, Honnold is likely the third person to free-solo Astroman, after Peter Croft and Dean Potter. Croft was the first person to solo both Astroman and the Rostrum in a day, in 1987. Honnold also led a one-day free ascent of Freerider (5.12d, 37 pitches) on El Capitan.

HERA will also host Huck for HERA with Lindner and Kinder, a dyno contest at the Rock and Ice booth/climbing wall on Thursday, January 22, at 11:30 a.m. – Noon. Professional climbers and HERA supporters Chris Lindner and Joe Kinder will emcee the event. Participants are asked to make a donation to HERA for a chance to dyno between teal HERA holds created by Etch. HERA’s Partners in Action, including Petzl and Omega Pacific, will furnish prizes up for the winners.
