PATAGONIA FOOTWEAR WINS PETA AWARD FOR NON-LEATHER DESIGNS

By Emily Snayd / Patagonia

Footwear Styles Stay in Step with Comfort that is as Kind to Feet as it is to the Cows

Ventura, Calif. (January 29, 2009) – PETA awards Patagonia Footwear as “Best Outdoor Vegan Shoe Retailer” in its sixth annual Proggy Awards. The award was given to Patagonia Footwear for its line of outdoor, leather-free footwear that keeps feet and cows comfortable and performing in their natural elements. Patagonia will receive a framed certificate and will be featured on PETA's award-winning Web site PETA.org. PETA's Proggy Awards ("Proggy" is for "progress") recognize animal-friendly achievements in commerce and culture. “We’re stoked to be recognized for both our environmental and animal sensitivities,” said Whitney Conner, brand manager at Patagonia Footwear. “We strive to build a line of footwear that performs well and, where we can, develop products that are leather-free. Be ready for more vegan-friendly styles in future footwear lines.”

In 2008, Patagonia Footwear offers six different styles of vegan footwear including the popular Finn hiking shoe. Available in both men's and women's sizes, this state-of-the-art shoe features breathable mesh, a recycled rubber sole, and superior durability and performance needed to explore the great outdoors.
