Rifle Mountain Park 2003 Climber Clean–Up and Kickin’ Access Tour stop #1

8/01/03 - Carbondale, Colorado. Climbing Magazine in conjunction with Avery Brewing Company once again is presenting the Rifle Mountain Park Climber Clean–Up, starting at 9:00 am on Saturday, August 23. The annual community-service event is organized by local climber and owner of Wolverine Publishing Dave Pegg and members of Climbing’s staff, is a way for climbers to show their appreciation to the City of Rifle for their generous support of climbing in their city park, and to maintain a pristine setting at this world-class destination. Participating climbers get trash bags supplied by the Access Fund in the morning and spend the day collecting trash at the base of cliffs, along trails and in the creek. In the evening everyone gathers at the community house at the mouth of the canyon to compare trash loads, and enjoy a barbecue and beers compliments of Climbing and Avery Brewing Company.

An exciting new addition to the event is Kickin’ Access Tour stop #1. Kickin’ Access is a traveling climbing party that raises climber awareness and money for the Access Fund. Longtime climbing figure Kurt Smith MC’s the event, which features a preview of the upcoming video Friction Addiction, produced by Smith, John Sherman and Charles Fryberger, and a live DJ who will keep the party hopping until the generator runs out of fuel.

“The Rifle Mountain Park Climber Clean - Up embodies Climbing’s community service philosophy,” says Climbing’s Editor Jeff Achey. “Preserving the areas climbers use and enhancing the relationships with the organizations that manage climbing areas is critical to the health of our sport. The Rifle Clean–Up is a great example of how this is accomplished at the grass-roots level, and it’s a great party.” Avery Brewing Company President and Owner Adam Avery adds, “It’s great to see a community that is devoted to preserving its resources. Being involved with the Rifle Mountain Park Climber Clean–Up is my opportunity to buy this devoted group a well deserved beer. Cheers!”

The Rifle Mountain Park Climber Clean–Up is scheduled for 9:00 am Saturday, August 23rd 2003. Raffle prizes donated by Climbing Magazine, Metolius, Petzl, Summit Canyon Mountaineering, Wolverine Publishing and La Sportiva.
