Sinks Canyon Gets Hardest Route with 5.14c
4/4/12 - Sinks Canyon in Lander, Wyoming, just got its hardest route to date by local B.J. Tilden: Double Down (5.14c).
Double Down is a link-up of two existing routes, Smoke Shapes and Dealer Calls, in the Moss Cave, aka the Wave Cave. The line moves through the rock mostly on mono pockets. Previously, the hardest routes at Sinks were three 5.14b’s: Organic, Monkey Gone to Heaven, and Traveling Menagerie (the first two were done by Tilden, the third by Kyle Vassilopoulos). Watch a video of Tilden working another project in the Moss Cave below.
In addition to establishing 5.14b sport routes, Tilden has climbed up to V13: Slashface, Barefoot on Sacred Ground (V12), The Flame (V12), and many more. Read an interview with Tilden from 2007 here.
More details to come.
Date of ascent: March 16, 2012
