The Big Island (V15) for Nakajima
2/26/13 – Japanese climber Toru Nakajima has climbed The Big Island (V15) in Fontainebleau, France. This problem is an extension of The Island (V14), first climbed by Dave Graham in 2008. French climber Vincent Pochon added a lower start in 2009, upgrading the problem.
Aside from this most recent ascent, it’s been a successful trip for Nakajima, who’s pulled down on eight problems V12 or harder, including two V14s: Gecko Assis and The Traphouse. The Big Island isn’t Nakajima’s first of the grade; in December 2012, he climbed Tokyo, a Dai Koyamada problem in Kasagi, Japan. (Below is some footage of Nakajima on a recent bouldering trip to Colorado.)
Date of ascent: February 2013
