First Woman to Boulder V14 (Video)

10/20/12 - The Japanese climber Tomoko Ogawa has climbed Catharsis (V14) at Shiobara, completing a three-year effort. The 34-year-old becomes the first woman in the world to boulder a confirmed V14.

The problem, with about 15 moves across a big roof, was established in 2005 by the great Japanese boulderer Dai Koyamada, and was repeated by Daniel Woods.

At least five women have bouldered V13, including Americans Angie Payne and Ashima Shiraishi. Ogawa had previously climbed two V12 problems in Japan.

Date of ascent: October 20, 2012
