This spring and early summer, 2010, there are three public USA Climbing Routesetting Clinics currently scheduled. The USA Climbing Routesetting Clinic and Certification program trains routesetters in basic and advanced competition setting skills and certifies setters to set for sanctioned competitions. If you are interested in attending a clinic or would like to learn more about the USAC Routesetting Clinic and Certification program, go to www.usacsetting.net.

USAC Level 1 Clinic: Mesa Rim Climbing Center: May 1st and 2nd, 2010

Scheduled for May 1st and 2nd, at an enormous new gym in San Diego, California, Mesa Rim Climbing Center, leading National Routesetter Chris Danielson will be instructing this Level 1 USAC Clinic. This clinic is a unique chance to work in a brand new facility, learn the basics of competition routesetting, and improve skills and techniques for commercial setting. Level 1 Clinics cover bouldering and roped terrain, focusing on techniques for efficient routesetting, theory and tools to understand and create climbing movement effectively, and introductory tricks and tips for competition routesetting.

This clinic is two full days and costs $100.00 plus a $39 USAC Routesetter Annual Membership. Participants who successfully complete the clinic will receive a USAC Level 1 Routesetter Certification. With any questions regarding this clinic, contact Chris at cdanielson@gthi.com.

Participation is capped at 20. Participants can register online here.

USAC Level 2 Clinic: Movement Climbing and Fitness: May 11th and 12th, 2010

This Level 2 Clinic, the first hosted at the new Boulder, Colorado mega-gym, Movement Climbing and Fitness, is a competition-specific instructional clinic designed to train, test, and certify routesetters, specifically to set for ABS Regional and SCS Divisional level events. If you are a Level 1 Certified setter, or have significant experience setting Regional/Divisional Level USAC events and can work a minimum of V5/5.12, this clinic will help you advance your competition setting skills for both youth and adults.

Chris Danielson will be instructing this clinic with two other outstanding assistant setters, Mike Moelter and Kynan Waggoner. Chris Danielson has developed much of the clinic and certification program for USA Climbing, recently set for the 2010 ABS and SCS Adult Nationals, and works as an independent consultant and sales rep in the climbing gym market. Mike Moelter is a one of only a few IFSC-certified routesetters in the US, and now works as Operations Manager at the host gym for the clinic, Movement. USAC Operations Director Kynan Waggoner is also IFSC-certified and coordinates all of the major sanctioned competitions in the US.

This clinic is two full days and the cost is $300.00. A $39 USAC Routesetter Annual Membership is also mandatory, and if you are not already a member, you may also purchase the membership online when registering. Successful participants in the clinic will receive Level 2 Certification with endorsements based on their performance in one or more of the competition areas – Youth Bouldering, Adult Bouldering, Youth Sport, and Adult Sport.

Participation is capped at 10 and as we expect more interested participants than there are available spots for, we will have a brief application to determine clinic participants. Please download this form, complete, and send to Chris Danielson directly at cdanielson@gthi.com – applications will be reviewed on a first-come first-served basis with Level 1 applicants taking precedence, and accepted applicants will be provided a link to the USAC registration page. With any questions regarding this clinic, contact Chris Danielson directly at cdanielson@gthi.com.
