V16 Repeated

French climber Julien Nadiras has repeated Tonino ’78, the V16 boulder problem established in January by Mauro Calibani. The sandstone boulder problem, located at an obscure (and usually closed) area called Meschia in Italy’s Appenine mountains, added a five-move, V10 sit-down start to another Calibani problem, Leonardo Da Vinci (V14), which itself got much harder after a crucial hold broke. Nadiras also is the only climber to have repeated Leonardo, which Calibani established in 2003. It took the Frenchman more than a month of attempts to send Tonino, aided by the first cool day of the fall in central Italy. Unfortunately for elite boulderers hoping for a repeat, the Meschia area has been closed to the public, and visits are only possible when Calibani can make special arrangements with the landowner.
