Origins - Joshua Tree

Origins is a new series of shorts we're working on with Evolv, Mountain Gear, and our friends at Sender Films. It's about the new school paying homage to their heroes of the past, exploring climbing's history, and revisiting some iconic (and iconoclastic) accomplishments of previous generations.

We just launched the first installment: Origins - Joshua Tree as a free video on YouTube. It tells the story of Kurt Smith's Joshua Tree heyday in 1988, and the ultra-techy, vertical freakshow routes he established there, in a ground-up style. Chris Lindner returns to JTree with Kurt for a history lesson and a tour of these forgotten testpieces, and attempts The Dunce Cap, a route that's sat unrepeated for 22 years.
