Event for Steve Dieckhoff
Because of all of you who showed up, and donated your time, energy, and products to the cause, the fundraising event June 2, 2007 at The Spot to help Boulder climber Steve Dieckhoff was a monster success. Organizers exceeded their goals, and the Boulder community came together for a great party and to celebrate the spirit of mutual support. We all had a taste of pizza, beer, and, of course, Steve's singular art, and we all had a great time. Thank you, and please enjoy this online gallery from Beth Wald — bethwaldphotography.com

The Art of Steve Dieckhoff
Dieckhoff has been in Boulder since 1979, and just about everyone knows him, but at present he is battling lymphoma, with dwindling funds and no health insurance (ongoing difficulties with a congenital hip defect and eventual hip replacement priced him out of being able to afford a policy). Dieckhoff underwent six rounds of chemotherapy beginning last November, and now needs a marrow transplant to survive. He is attempting to line out Medicaid, which should come through, but in the meantime friends are rallying to help. While Dieckhoff's story is frightening, it is also a reminder to all of us to keep health insurance current and to even at our poorest look into those "catastrophic" policies that will cover us in our times of direst need. A trip to your local insurance agent will get you the info you need, and even $75 to $100/month, if you're in good health, can lock you into a serviceable policy. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION

The Needles of the Southern Sierra
Photos by Nathaniel Walker — The splitter cracks and bright lichen of the Needles is hard to mistake for any other climbing area in the world. The awe inspiring formations: Magician, Djinn, Charlatan, Wizard, Sorcerer, Witch, Warlock, Necromancer, Fire Wall, Voodoo Dome, and Demon Dome, have attracted climbers year-after-year, since they were discovered. Most formations have at least an hour approach, which helps keep the crowds away and ensures a tranquil experience. Nathaniel captures such classics as Atlantis, Thin Ice, Igor Unchained, Davey Jones Locker, Pyromania and more ...

Triple Crown Finale - Stone Fort - December 2nd, 2006
182 Photos by Brian Burnham. The sun was barely up, but the staging area for the third and final round of the Triple Crown Bouldering Series, held at The Stone Fort (formerly: Little Rock City) was already packed and poised. The hyper-focused and smoothly professional Kate Reese displayed for the third time why she is the reigning Triple Crown Queen, coolly climbing her way to a third victory in the 2006 series and sealing her second overall win over the up-and-coming Sasha DiGiulian. Visiting French strongman Tony Lamiche raged. He bested overall series winner Paul Robinson by 3000 points and climbed a number of longstanding projects in the field, leaving locals with a new understanding of what is possible. Check out the event recap - Stone Fort - Triple Crown Finale

Bouldering Castle Hill, New Zealand
Photos by Cooper Roberts - The lack of a crowd at Castle Hill is odd considering that this area is filled with hundreds of contorted limestone blocks perfectly sculpted for bouldering; not to mention grassy landings that roll right to the base of the boulders and an unforgettable landscape. The basin itself is dived into three main sectors: Quantum Field, Spittle Hill, and Flock Hill. Take away a bit of texture, add a ton of pockets and what's left is a climbing style reminiscent of the French bouldering mecca Fontainebleau.

HP40 Triple Crown 2006
Photos by Brian Burnaham - HorsePens 40 is available 360+ days a year, thanks to the friendly Schultz family (www.hp40.com), who bought these forty acres 5 years ago and have been accommodating climbers since. This is the place where the term “sloper-jug” was born. The boulders have been sculpted into wild shapes reminiscent of mushroom caps and brain coral; yet these pillowy features belie the complexity of the climbing. Suitors must learn to coordinate their movements—hands, toes, knees, and elbows—to traipse efficiently up or across the fantastic cauliflower undulations. Read the event recap by Alex Fitzner
