Triop Rock Shoe Review

Triop Orca, $100
Summary: The Orca is a well-constructed, comfortable, intermediate face/sport shoe. The heel pocket, which some might find too high, sucks you in for a form-fitting yet cushy fit. The unlined Orca performs best on edgy routes, but also shines on mid-size cracks and long routes, if you fit it comfortably. It would be nice if the lacing began another row down the toe, to provide a better fit.
Pros: Versatile intermediate shoe. Edges well.
Cons: Heel pull-tabs sewn on inside. Needs more toe lacing.
Overall grade: B

Triop Rap, $120
Summary: Built for steep rock, the unlined Rap is an aggressive, anatomically lasted shoe with a pointed toe that loves to latch onto the smallest nubbins. The shoe’s tongue is attached with stretchy Neoprene and, in concert with nylon lacing straps that elevate the arch, provides a tight yet comfortable fit. Like the Orca, the Rap needs another row of lacing.
Pros: Form-fitting tongue. Excellent toe- grabbing.
Cons: Heel pull-tabs sewn on inside. Needs more toe lacing.
Overall grade: B+
