Coloradan Matt Wilder, who was hanging out at the New River Gorge, West Virginia, in April to attempt his futuristic Rapunzel (5.14+?) trad line, didn't send the big project but did manage to establish a desperate and exciting new route at Beauty Mountain: Eye of the Beholder (5.13d). This all-trad route starts on the classic Welcome to Beauty (5.11b) and then, after a no-hands rest, guns through a V9/10 boulder problem, followed by mid-5.12 face climbing to the top, with sparse but solid gear. This five-minute segment about the climb, filmed by local climber Pat Goodman, is part of a larger film called Projects that will feature footage from Rapunzel, a 5.13 Goodman trad route, and more.
