"These are hands that have climbed 10 times more rock than Chris Sharma." Narrated by Colin Haley, this short video follows Fred Beckey climbing in one of the few places he had never climbed but always wanted to: the Dolomites.

Just came back from our yearly climbing trip to the 'dolies' - by now a 59 year old tradition, for our aging group. Fred, you gave us a wonderful example to follow; thanks for the inspiration.

Go for it Fred. Makes some of the rest of us realize we turned into vegetables too early.

I was in Dolomiti a week ago and just the hike to the base of the climbs could get you breathless with that kinda altitude (i'm 29 by the way). When I'm 89, I want to be like you Mr Fred, respecto!

Kelly - 09/28/2013 12:39:07

Inspirational! Cheers to you Mr. Becky....definitely gives me hope to continue as I turn 70 :)

Paulette - 09/28/2013 12:14:26

Just got back from 17 days of hiking and Via Ferratta in the Dolomites with an 81 year old. That was inspiring. This is over the top. Thanks Fred.

Got to meet Fred in Talkeetna in 2005. Talked to him for about half an hour about climbing in Alaska and Colorado. Amazing to talk to such an accomplished climber, and he didn't care to talk about what he had done, but wanted to talk about what he wanted to do! If only all of us were so humble.

Awesome Mr. Becky - so inspirational - perhaps I have 29 more years of fun ahead for me - Yeehaw

Bob Milko - 09/27/2013 3:16:01

Awesome Mr. Beckey. I still have 29 more years of fun ahead of me. Yeehaw.

Bob Milko - 09/27/2013 3:11:50

What's next on that list, Fred!

What an incredible ( an ballsy) human being Fred Beckey is. He shows through his actions what a positive attitude, diet, and exercise can do to overcome a person`s age. What a great video, it totally blew me away when I heard he was 89. This guy will never slow down. Very cool Fred, keep it `up` Fred you are amazing.

Best video I've seen in a long time. The underside of my glasses got salty. Bravo Mr. Fred Beckey. I LIKE the pace of the video and narration. Lets the viewer in. Proves that special-effects and frenetic explosions are not needed. A real story is needed, appreciated, and valued. I'm going to figure out how to share this with the generations older and younger than mine. They'll be surprised, because I'm afraid of heights. I just got inspired.

Kirsten Stromberg - 09/22/2013 8:38:41

Go climb a rock!

pedro - 09/21/2013 9:38:07

Thanks Fred and whoever produced this video. It gives us, the old mountain geezers, immense hope that our body will not get in the way of our passion.

Phillip from Santa Barbara - 09/21/2013 9:28:43

I have sons who climb and I saw this on facebook. I don't understand the need to climb, but I really am impressed, inspired by this video. This man is continues to live his life. I see so many people not doing ( activities ) because they have to go slower or make adjustments, or because of the general idea of their age. I have some physical problems but I try to do things that I enjoy. Seeing this video supports the idea of trying to live life to the fullest.

Jan Robinson - 09/21/2013 7:34:38
